Religious Distribution and History Summary
The large spread of Christianity to Europe came from the Roman empire. Though the influence of the Roman empire and Christianity did spread through merchants, and soldiers in southern Europe, it was mostly through monasteries and monks that north Europe was introduced to Christianity after the Roman Empire collapsed. Due to these monks converting European peoples to Christianity, the Roman Catholic Church gained immense power, however, the Protestant Reformation resulted in the prevalence of many different branches of Christianity existing in all parts of Europe.
In modern Europe, tensions are present against practitioners of Islam due to recent terrorist attacks Islam radicals. Many Muslims face prejudice and islamophobia, and some have even been victims of attacks by members of the far-right.
